# Problems on Trains

How to solve Numerical ability Aptitude problems on Trains ? In this section we will be covering Aptitude questions on Trains. MCQ on Trains along with answers are provided.

Few important notes related to solving these questions are mentioned below. All these following Multiple choice Questions have appeared in recent competitive exams and helpful in college admission for improving Test score.

• For converting Y Km/hr into m/sec –Y Km/hr = ( Y * 5/18) m/sec
• For converting Y m/sec into km/hr –Y m/sec = ( Y * 18/5) Km/hr
• Time taken by a train of length X metres to pass a pole or a standing man or a signal post is equal to the time taken by the train to cover X metres.
• Time taken by a train of length X metres to pass an object of length Y metres will be the time taken by the train to cover (X + Y) metres.
• If two trains or objects are moving in same direction at x m/sec and y m/sec respectively, where x > y, then their relative speed will be (x– y) m/sec.
• If two trains or objects are moving in opposite direction at x m/sec and y m/sec respectively, where x > y, then their relative speed will be (x– y) m/sec.
• If two trains are moving in opposite direction,of length a and b metres and moving with speed of x m/sec and y m/sec respectively, then the time taken by trains to cross each other is {(a+b)/(x+y)} seconds.
• If two trains are moving in same direction,of length a and b metres and moving with speed of x m/sec and y m/sec respectively, then the time taken by faster train to cross slower train is {(a+b)/(x-y)} seconds.

Problems on Trains are frequently asked in almost all competitive Entrance Exams and in GRE,CAT,MAT etc. With clear concepts and careful analysis, these problems can be easily solved.
